Lorenza and Marco Pallanti of Castello di Ama have been making wines in Tuscany since the 1970’s situated around the hamlet of Alma, which perches at 450-550 metres above sea level. Regarded for their elegance and freshness, allied to their natural intensity and depth, Castello di Alma has, as Galloni states, “crafted some of the most riveting wines in Tuscany… simply put, there are few estates in Italy at this level.”
Vigneto Bellavista uses 80% Sangiovese, with the final 20% being made up of local variety Malvasia Nera and is farmed from a single vineyard very rich in clay. It is made only in exceptional years and is aged for 12 months in 50% new French oak so as not to overpower the aromatics. The first vintage was 1982 – it has been made just 10 times since the turn of the millennium.
